Expert Solution

“PMS or Practice management software used in medical practices. It is a software which deals with day to day operations using desktop software, client-server software and internet-based software.” It is used to perform the administrative and financial activities as is sometimes linked to EMR (Based on individual medical practice requirements). It collects data as follows:

1.Patient details and demographics

2.Billing details

3.Insurance payers details

4.Disease data details

There are integration and overlapping of PMS and EMR due to the requirement of EMR implementation as per US laws. Further HITECH (Health information technology for economic and clinical health) act requires patient details and disease to be captured electronically and presented to federal and state public health agencies.

Advantages of PMS are as follows:

  • Storing patient information and disease details for public health care department
  • Provide data to third-party payers
  • Billing tasks
  • Scheduling appointments

To sum it up its software which can give all basic information about the patient and his relevant records like demographics, billing etc at one point.

Part #4: Data normalization: Background: Data in a relational database is stored in a normalized form. Data normalization or just normalization is a strategy used to organize data into multiple related tables to reduce data redundancy while preserving data integrity. Exercise: Normalize the student data in the University table (sample data is shown further below) into 3 tables, namely, Student, Department, and Course. You do not need to populate data. Just illustrate the schema for the 3 tables. You may...
