What is the role of modelling in the design process? Give three reasons why models are useful and illustrate each reason with an example.

Solutions

Expert Solution

The role of modelling in the design process is very useful. Modelling of any design is the simple replicate of that design component, by which we simulate the design with present as well as future.

There are different reasons for which models are useful:

1. Analysis of the design: from the software modelling, we can analysis any design with the present data .

Like, For Traffic signal design at any intersection, if we collect the data for present condition we can analysis the junction by create modelling and simulating it to the present condition with giving those data.

2. Performance measure of the model: After analysis, we can measure the performance of the model , as it is perform well or it is safe or not in present condition.

Like, after analysin of the junction, we can measure the performance of the intersection, i.e what are the Level of Service for each lanes.

3. Recommendation through model: If there any deficiency is measured by simulating it with the present data, we can give recommendations for better futures aspects of the design through the model.

Like, after measuring the performance if found that, any lanes have Level of service E or F, we will give change different parameters to see, for what parameter change, we will get the better Level of Service of that lanes.

These are main reasons of modelling in the design process, by which we can simulate both present and future condition of the design.
