data =
X1= 14, 8, 6, 14, 20, 13, 9, 12
x2= 13, 4, 1, 8, 10, 12, 8, 6
1. Find the difference between the two groups when using a dependent t-test then find the independent two-sample t-test, and compare the results with those from the dependent t-test
We can use excel to apply the dependent t-test.
The excel output is:
The test statistic is 3.76 and the p-value is 0.0071. Since the p-value is less than 0.05, we, therefore, can conclude that there exists a significant difference between x1 and x2
We can use excel to apply the independent two-sample t-test.
The excel output is:
The test statistic is 2.02 and the p-value is 0.0628. Since the p-value is greater than 0.05, we, therefore, can conclude that there exists an insignificant difference between x1 and x2
Therefore, we can see the results using the dependent t-test turned out to be significant while the results using the independent two-sample t-test are insignificant.
