The Problem
Due to financial hardship, the Nyke Shoe Company feels they only need to make one size of shoes, regardless of gender or height. They have collected data on gender, shoe size, and height and have asked you to tell them if they can change their business model to include only one size of shoes—regardless of height or gender of the wearer. In no more than 5–10 pages (including figures), explain your recommendations, using statistical evidence to support your findings. The data found are given in the following table.
Only use results in the paper. You may show your work in an appendix, if you would like.

Is there a significant effect of height and gender on shoe size? To answer this question regression analysis is used to determine the relationship between response variable shoe size and explanatory variables height and gender. The following steps are used in excel to perform the regression analaysis,
Step 1: Write the data values in excel. The screenshot is shown below,
Step 2: DATA > Data Analysis > Regression > Ok. The screenshot is shown below,
Step 3: Select Input Y Range : Shoe size column and Input X Range: Height and Gender column. The screenshot is shown below,
The result is obtained. The screenshot is shown below,
The regression equation is,
The P-value for Height and gender are,
P-value | |
Height | 0.000 < 0.05 |
Gender | 0.000 < 0.05 |
The p-value for each explanatory variable is less than 0.05 at 5% significance level which indicate that there is significant effect of both the variables in defining the shoe size. Hence it will be recommended to nyke company that donot make single shoe size.
