4. Genetics and legality-

  • Genetics is helpful in solving various legal problems with ease. Court cases involving questions of disputed parentage have been solved by an analysis of blood types or inherited characteristics.
  • Further, genetics provides best solutions to the problem of divorce, custody of children, estate inheritance and support of illegimate children, etc.

5. Genetics in removing false concepts about heredity-

  • Gene tics has removed various faulty beliefs and misunderstandings concerning the heredity which commonly prevailed among the different human societies.
  • For example, this is oldest and widely accepted concept that the blood is the hereditary determiner. Various phrases such as "blood will tell," "blue blood", "bloodline", "blood relative" and "bad blood" are still common in our languages and these clearly indicate towards the relationship between the blood and heredity.
  • But, now genetics has made it clear that blood has nothing to do with heredity and it is DNA or RNA of reproductive entities. (1.e., asexual spores, gemmules, etc., and gametes such as sperms and ova) which are the carrier of genetic information.
  • Likewise, this is commonly believed that children born during the earliest part of the parents reproductive life will be consistently inferior in hereditary qualities than the children of more sexually matured parents.
  • But, recent eugenical studies have discarded such views and have recommended strongly that young parents have best type of germplasm having no mutational contamination due to radiations and certain other mutagenic substances.
