These have also been covered in The Lady Tasting Tea - and we've done a LOT of histograms in this class because of this very week. NOW you see why we take so much time in constructing those histograms - they can show us the distribution of a data set in an easy to recognize format.

For this week's Excel assignment, I'm going to let you use any of the data sets we have practiced with so far in class. They're all fair game from the gradesPreview the document data, to moviesPreview the document, basketball statsPreview the document, LMAS animalsPreview the document, etc.

Turn in an Excel spreadsheet with at least FOUR examples of distributions covered in the text this week. Show their histograms, and explain why you think they fit that particular distribution type. Also include the descriptive statistics that back up what you see from the graphs, and tell how they support that finding

Expert Solution

As no such such sheet is provided in the question, I shall explain you how to draw a histogram in Excel with a sample data set along with its descriptive statistics.

I have taken a list of 26 students with their respective marks as shown below:

The descriptive statistics of the data set is shown below:

The above attachment just shows the Mean, Median, Mode, Range, Maximum, Count etc of the data set which is self explanatory.

Histogram

Procedure to draw in Excel

Simply select the data set and then go to Insert > Charts > Histogram

The histogram is represented above.

I think that the above data fits the histogram because the marks represent a normal distribution. There are different students having a different score and these scores an be divided in particular intervals, i.e. 11 to 34, 34 to 57, 57 to 80 and 80 to 100 and so on as shown above.

If we draw a line joining the centers of each of the block of the histogram, then it will look like:

This curve resembles a normal bell curve.

The tip of the curve represents the mean and the points closer to the mean has the highest frequency of occurrence.

Kindly note that this histogram is drawn only on the basis of the sample data set that I have used for this question. Kindly provide your own data set so that a proper analysis can be performed on it.

‘Lady tasting tea’ is a randomized experiment devised by Ronald Fisher and reported in his book The Design of Experiments (1935). The lady in question (Muriel Bristol) claimed that she can tell whether the tea or the milk was added first to a cup. Fisher proposed to give her eight cups, four of each variety, in random order. One could then ask what the probability was for her getting the specific number of cups she identified correct, but just by...

During the first half of the class, we've covered the sociological imagination in some detail. Also, we've covered some of the most important structural forces at work in each of our lives: race (Week 3); class (Week4); and gender and sexuality (Week 5). In this CAP assignment, I'd like you to think about how biography, social structure, and history have intersected in your life and culminated in the person you are today. A lot of research has been done about the importance of exposing children to classical music because it causes their cerebellum to be larger. In terms of academia, I think for some people listening to music will make a difference in the test scores, however, I also wonder if the type of music will impact the results not just the volume. If you were to actually conduct this study, which research design would you use?
