1.Discuss group diversity issues
Following are the group diversity issues:
A)Acceptance and Respect
A fundamental value that contributes to a successfully diversified workplace is respect among workers and employees. When there is a lack of acceptance of the diverse culture and beliefs among employees, conflicts may arise.
B)Accommodation of Beliefs
Diversity in cultural, spiritual, and political beliefs can sometimes pose a challenge in a diverse workplace. Employees need to be reminded that they shouldn’t impose their beliefs on others to prevent spats and disputes.
C)Ethnic and Cultural Differences
Sadly, issues from ethnic and cultural differences are still present in the workplace. There are still some individuals who hold prejudice against people who have different ethnic, cultural, and religious backgrounds as their own.
D)Gender Equality
According to a recent survey, 40% of people believe that both men and women will hire men over women. This is supported by another study that shows that men are 30% more likely to be promoted to a managerial position than women. Additionally, men earn an approximately 24% higher base pay than women.
E) Physical and Mental Disabilities
Often, disabled employees have a difficult time navigating through their workplace because proper accommodations as simple as wheelchair ramps are not available. Some special needs employees also have service dogs, and some office buildings don’t allow them inside.
F)Generation Gaps
By 2025, millennials will make up 75% of the workforce, and they are changing the work culture. Employees from other generations may have difficulties adapting to changes in the workplace and the work culture that the younger generation are bringing about.
G)Language and Communication
Language and communication barriers are ever-present in companies with a diverse workforce. Often, US or UK companies hire people whose native tongue or first language is not English, so employees and managers sometimes have difficulties in getting their message across. This can lead to miscommunication and productivity loss.
2.Within the context of group, discuss Confidentiality and its limits.
Confidentiality in group: Anything said between any two or more members of a group at any time is part of the group and is confidential. Anything which occurs between or among any members is part of the group is kept secret from anyone outside of the group but is not kept secret from the group.
Limits of Confidentiality in group: Confidentiality is broken when some incident has happened which can lead to serious effects and repercussions on others. Confidentiality also survives based on honesty of group members.
3.List and discuss the many factors that make up group leadership.
There are four major factors in group leadership such as:
Leader, Followers, Communication and Situation
Leader must have an honest understanding of who he is, what he knows, and what he can do. It is the followers, not the leader or someone else who determines whether the leader is successful. If they do not trust or lack confidence in their leader, then they will be uninspired.
Followers are the subordinates of a head. Leader must know his people. The fundamental starting point is having a good understanding of human nature, such as needs, emotions, and motivation.
Communication maintains good relationship between leader and followers as well as shows the leader efficiency. A head lead through two-way communication. Much of it is nonverbal. Communication should be polite and gentle in manner. It should strengthen the human relations.
There are many different situations one leader has to face. What the leader do in one situation will not always work in another. He must use his judgment to decide the best course of action and the leadership style needed for each situation.
