Class,

As you learned this week, human beings do not have the most sensitive or acute sensory systems in the animal world. Some bats can hear frequencies that exceed 100,000 Hertz, dolphins receive auditory messages from great distances, and cats can probably localize sounds better than we do because they can rotate their ears. Rats see better at night than we can, eagles have more acute distance vision, and horses have a wider visual field. Rabbits have more taste buds than we do, and many animals have a keener sense of smell.

This exercise asks you to consider how you would perceive the world if your senses were more acute or sensitive than they actually are. Please answer the following questions and post it to the discussion board. List a few things you would see, that you cannot see now, if your sense of vision were "better."

List a few things you would hear, that you cannot hear now, if you could hear "better." If your chemical senses-taste and smell-were more sensitive, how might you be affected?

Why are our senses no more and no less acute or sensitive than they are?

If human beings continue to be urban creatures for the next few million years, in what ways might our sensory systems evolve or change?

Lastly, you must read other students' posts and respond to at least one other studenti Prof. Karina

1.If my vision were better, i would like to see

  • X-rays
  • Ultraviolet rays
  • Radio waves
  • Magnetic waves
  • Gamma rays

Because UV, X-ray, Gamma ray which have lower wave length were as infrared, radio waves have higher wavelength than visible light.

2.If my vision hear better, i would like hear:

  • Woman crying away from mile
  • sonar waves
  • Dog whistles

3.Chemical senses are taste (gustation) and smell (olfaction)because both have sensory receptors that respond to the molecules when we eat and breath.

  • I might able to taste the soil when raining and also to taste the candle fragrance when i walk into candle store, i would not need extra salt, sweet on my food.
  • I can smell perfume if i am in a ten floor of building.

4.The world around us made up of energy and human to be aware for the way we need to get energy into the brain.

  • Sensation is defined as the process by which the special sensory receptors in organs are getting activated, which allow energy from outside that transmits into neural signal in our brain.
  • We perceive sensation and make judgements about your surroundings environment. If our senses become very sensitive,we would likely less to receive sensation and to perceive danger for survival.
  • If our senses become more sensitive that were bombarded by stimuli and our brains become neutral when signal came from our sense organs.
  • Being confused by an stunning amount of stimulation,we would be less likely to perceive danger for survival.

5. We would examine our habits to answer this question.Things that we do as urban creatures are:

  • Riding a high speed trains, automobiles and keeping high volume ear pieces in to our ears, attending concerts, exposing to artificial lights, preserving foods and communication with text message(chatting).
  • We might evolve by becoming less to light as a trigger for changing circadian cycle. Our hearing range become shorter because of what we hear is loud and our taste buds become dull because of high flavors of our fast food.
  • Our sense of sight changes because of receiving large amount of visual stimulus while travel in cars, planes and trains.
  • I think that if we connect with internet and have few direct our communication, our sense lost the ability to receive sensation and sense of touch.
  • We would become sensitive to picking up on the non visual and touch in our relationships with other humans. i think,it would be saddest change
