Module 2 introduces you to the living cell. Compare and contrast eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells.
Your assignment should be 250-500 words in length.
PLEASE IN YOUR OWN WORDS!!!! NO PLAGIARISM!!!
The difference can be found as below:
The prokaryotic cells are those cells which do not contain membrane-bound organelles. They contain all the molecules suspended inside the cytoplasm freely. The nuclear material is called a nucleoid and a secondary DNA structure called plasmid may also be found. The ribsomes are 40S and 30S types in nature. General methods of reproduction are asexual fission, budding or sexual transduction, transfection etc. Organs of locomotion are either absent or present in the form of pili, flagella, fimbrae etc. Genome is devoid of any intronic sequences and post-transcriptional changes do not take place.
The eukaryotic cells contain membrane-bound organelles such as nucleus, mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum, lysosomes, peroxisomes, chloroplasts etc. The ribosome is generally 50S and 40S type in nature. The genetic material is generally DNA and is divided into euchromatin exon and heterochromatin intron. Post-transcriptional changes and splicing does take place in them. Mode of reproduction include asexual mitosis and sexual meiosis. The genome is divided into well defined chromosomes which contain nucleosomes. Organs of locomotion are flagella.
