USA History:
What was the root cause of the Civil War, was it a lack of compromise between the Southerners and the Northerners or was slavery?
Both, Slavery and lack of compromise between the Southerners and northerners was the reason of the the civil war.
The Northern and Southern parts of the United States developed along differently. The South remained a predominantly agrarian economy while the North became industrialized. All of this led to disagreements on issues such as taxes, tariffs and internal improvements as well as states rights versus federal rights.
The issue that led to the disruption of the union was the debate over the future of slavery. The Southern states wanted to maintain their authority over the federal government so they could do away with federal laws they didn't support, especially laws interfering with the South's right to keep slaves. The South wished to take slavery into the western territories, while the North was adamant to keeping them open to white labor alone.
In Sum: So both the issues are interrelated and led to the civil war in united states.
