Expert Solution

I am choosing an organic compound Napthalene and I provide information of it.

Basically Napthalene is an organic compound with formula C10H8 and it is aromatic hydrocarbon and it's structure consists of a fused pair of benzene rings.

Napthalene found naturally in fossil fuels (coal tar or crude oil) when they are burned, So Napthalene is found in cigarette smoke, car exhaust and smoke from forest fires.

Synthesis of Napthalene:

Physical and chemical properties:

Napthalene is a white crystalline solid with a very strong odor. It's melting point is 80.2 degree C and it's boiling point is 217.9 degree C. It is planar like benzene but in Napthalene carbon-carbon bonds are not of same length.

Chemical reactions:

Uses/applications of Napthalene:

Napthalene is used mainly as a precursor to other chemicals. It is mainly used in the production of plastics, dyes, lubricants and fuels.

Napthalene is used for the control of clothes moth. In this application, the Napthalene vapors fill the airtight container and kill the insects.

In laboratory this Napthalene is used as wetting agent and also as a surfactant.
