why we don't use density, average speed, and volume to describe the intersection LOS(LEVEL OF SERVICE)
Solution) When we are considering the Level of Service at an intersection we don't use density , average speed and volume at an intersection due to signalisation at the intersection there is delay in the traffic due to stoppage of traffic fro sometime as the traffic does not make its usual pace due to stoppage at intersection at signal thus we can't take into account density or the average speed of the vehocles in this case although we take the density and speed in the consideration but these parameters are re-evaluated at the intersection on basis of the type of intersection provided and no. of phases of the signal and take a note on th earrival and departure of the vehicles on the intersection an dthe speed is taken into care with respect to the signal instruction once the traffic stops it accounts for congestion on that particular way which can be mangaed and LOS can be increased by varying phase time of the signal and thus reducing arrival rate and increasing departure rate this may be case when a major road is intersecting a minor road thus density average speed volume doesn't affect LOS at intersection mainly due to change in behaviour of traffic due to signalised intersection.
