1ans) The US department of Transportation define hazardous materials as articles or substances which are capable of creating risk to health,safety or property of human beings,animals or to the environment.some of the classes of hazard are explosives,compressed gases,flamable liquids,flamable solids,oxidizers and organic peroxides,radioactive material and corrosive material.

2ans) Isolation and protective action distances of chlorine gas:

a) if a tank,railcar or tank truck is involved in a fire isolate 0.5mi in all directioins.

b) for small splits involving lessthen 200lts.first isolate 30m in all directions and protect persons upto 0.2km during the day and 0.8km during the night.

c) for largr spills greaterthan 200lts.first isolate 240m in all directions and protect persons upto 2.4km in day and 7.4km at night.

3ans) As per United States Department of Transportation Hazardous materials Fatilities,injuries,accidents and property damage data were 19853 regarding facilities,injuries and accidents and 113386 regarding property damage data.

4ans) DOT,Hazardous materail regulation is under Title 49 from parts 171-180
