Now imagine you are a Kindergarten teacher explaining the Common Core Standards to a group of families. Respond to the following three questions. .
Why is it called the “Common Core”?
What do the standards mean to you?
Would you support the Common Core? State why or why not.
The common Core State Standards, CCSS as it is spelled out is a framework that was introduced in the United States to ensure a common expectation, curriculum and practice for English Language Arts and Mathematics. It was developed by the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices and the Council of Chief State School Officers from 48 states. It was introduced to maintain the standards uniform and prepare the students well for the college education by setting the expected outcomes at the end of each grade year. Another important factor is to provide quality education to everyone across the United States no matter where one lives. This framework also provides and encourages the teachers to upgrade themselves in line with the new curriculum. Although I support the Common Core, all the private schools have better infrastructure, facilities and exposure when compared to the government schools thus expecting the same from everyone without taking their economic, social and family backgrounds will only demotivate people who are not supported at home and in the society.
