One of the most difficult things that people face in the world is the loss of their loved ones. Each society has its own way of mourning for the death depending on the religious and cultural values, practices and customs. This would mean that when people are expected to go through a stage theory model, it would cause confusion on their own practice because what is developed in the Western society just as any other psychological theory may not be applicable in the collective societies that have a different way of doing things. Secondly, it depends on whose death one is mourning because the intensity, the number of days and the amount of sadness one experience would depend on the personal connection and shared values of the person who one lost. So, in my opinion, stage theory wouldn’t be appropriate for bereavement as it would only misguide and culturally inappropriate for people from different walks of life.
