Expert Solution

Discuss why two restaurants in the same community might have different pay levels? Support your answer with examples.

Two different restaurants in the same community might pay their employees differently due to the following reasons:

  • Restaurants might be facing financial crises and hence could not pay more to their employees. on the other hand restaurant who is financially strong might pay more.
  • The dividend payout ratio also affects the payment made to the employees. Higher the dividend payout ratio, less the pay and vice versa.
  • The retention policies for future expansion or other tasks also influence the pay giving capacity of the restaurant. Higher the retention policy, less the amount of pay.
  • For example, an expensive French restaurant might pay his employees more salary as compared to a local small scale restaurant to its employees.

When you go looking for a job after graduation, what sources do you expect to use? Why?

The sources that can be explored in order to find a job after graduation includes the following:

  • Various online portals highlighting job vacancies of different organizations can be used, after filling in important details.
  • The name can be registered in the employment exchange where notifications are made available from time to time.
  • Exploring websites of different organizations where you wish to work and search for any job notifications.
  • Help from teachers can also be taken as they can guide a student better about any vacancy.
  • Attending different job fairs so that information about new companies and their job vacancies can be taken.

What do you think of realistic job preview? Would you be more likely to choose a position where recruiters emphasized only the positive aspects of the job?

  • Realistic job preview (RJP) refers to the act where the organization makes the candidates aware about the good as well as bad side of the job being offered.
  • RJP is a good initiative by organizations so that the candidates before selecting the job is aware about every aspect of the job and is not uncertain in any situation.
  • No! I would not choose a position where only the positive sides of the job are highlighted and the negative/ bad points are concealed.
  • This would mean that something bad is been hid which need to be known to the candidates and might harm the candidate in one way or another, in the future.
  • Hence, it is better to go for a job where both the good as well as bad aspects of the job are properly highlighted and nothing is concealed.

What kinds of signals can warn a manager that employee training may be necessary?

  • The employees not doing their work effectively and hence poor results are reflected in the end.
  • The work allotted to the employees is not done properly and many mistakes are highlighted in their work.
  • The employees are not confident in whatever task is allotted to them and they seek help of everyone in the organization.
  • The employees take more than normal time to complete the allotted task hence output level decreases to large extent.

Do you think a person’s age and career stage evolve together? Why or why not?

  • Yes! I think that a person's age and career age evolve together.
  • When an individual starts with his job in his young age, he works on the lower ranks of the organization.
  • One cannot expect to rise to the top of the organization at a very young age with no experience in job affairs.
  • As an individual grows in age he works harder to reach to the higher ranks of the organization step by step.
  • With age comes hard work, with hard work comes success and with success comes the opportunity of career growth.
