Drawing on your prior knowledge, the studies and literature research you have completed, and the readings for this topic, reflect on the role of ethics in the research process. Discuss strategies a doctoral learner or researcher might employ to protect participants and the institutions (GCU/data collection site) in a study. Explain any concerns/uncertainties you have regarding ethical conduct during dissertation research.
One of the most important factors in a research is its ethical considerations. There are various aspects of ethics that would ensure the fair conduction of the research. Factors such as confidentiality in maintaining the data safe, informed consent by getting prior permission for participation, integrity by being honest about the research, objectivity by not showing any sibjective involvement or altering the data, openness in giving all the information about the research to the participants, non-discrimination by treating everyone equally, legality by following the laws of the land, no harm to anyone etc. play an important role in ensuring that the research follows the ethical standards.
There may be times when the researcher will face stress and ambiguity because of various reasons. One of the major problems would be the cultural difference, so a researcher needs to be culture sensitive. Individuals are different, so making conclusions using less number of participants will not be sufficient. When using children in the research, the researcher cannot follow the same ethical principles as they follow for adults. Finally, while doing an international research, one needs to be aware of the laws of the land.
