a. Considering the textbook’s discussion of extrinsic versus intrinsic motivation, how would you expect the two groups of students to differ in terms of classroom learning and performance? Describe five differences you are likely to see between them.
b. Describe three strategies you might use to promote intrinsic motivation in the grade-oriented students
The basic difference between two group of student will be
1) Those with intrinsic motivation(IM) will have interest in learning while students with extrinsic motivation(EM) will have low or no interest.
2) Student with IM will easily adjust to demand of teaching while other group will gind it tough to adjust to demands.
3) Those with IM will find learning to be crucial in thier social or personal life but group with EM will find no such significane .
4) Those with IM will remember the learned things for much longer time than the other groups.
5) If rewards and punishment are.used then students with EM will loose interest amd motivation once reward or punishment is stopped while students with IM will continue to have motivation even after rewards are stopped.
Strategy to motivate intrinsically the grade oriented students.
1) First try to collect information about grade oriented children . What sport they like , what activities they pursue with passion. Then ask what specific factor motivates them in such activities then try to incorporate those factors into study plan .
2) Devise grade free subjects and make it interesting through innovative teaching and use of technology.
3) Give some control in the hands of student to decide the subjects and chapters to be discussed . Intrinsic motivation is product of interest and percieved control . Thus , By giving control , intrinsic motivation can be increased.
