As opposed to discussing motivational theory, let’s discuss what works (or doesn’t) work in terms of motivating you personally. Please share with the class an example of something that significantly impacted your level of motivation at work (or, if you can’t come up with something work-related, in some other group activity) either positively or negatively.
Individuals could be motivated by a variety of reasons which could be either work related or study related.
At work, the motivation level could be increased when one is appreciated for the improvement in work ie it could be in form of employee of the month. The company could provide paid leaves as an inventive to such employees. This could work as a motivation for others to work effectively to achieve the employee of the month title.
Or it could be in form of food coupons, free commuting to offices, providing health insurance. These are mostly added so that the employees feel connected to the company and hence their efforts are concentrated for the higher productivity and earnings of the firm.
One can feel demotivated or could be motivated negatively, when the efforts put in are not appreciated or when the pay structure is such that there is no relation between the wage and the efforts.
Another factor that could work as a negative motivation is when the work environment is such that it does not push the employees to work more honestly and efficiently. Long hours of work could lead to boredom and lack of efficiency which could hamper the results and earnings of the firm.
These are the factors that could motivate or demotivate the employees at work.
