Surveys attempt to fill the gaps of the UCR. There is so much crime that goes unreported to law enforcement that this approach is necessary to attempt to get an accurate picture of crime and victims in the country. Over the years, these surveys have had to be changed to address problems with their predecessors.

  • Review Chapter 2 in your textbook.
  • Write a three paragraph response on the use of victim surveys.

Over the past few decades victim survey had helped us to understanding about the crime problems,and assessing risks of crime.These surveys provide detailed , informative, quantitative and qualitative data.This surveys are very quick and easy to be conducted.people likely give correct aanswers instead of biase answers, it varifys the extend towards crime is done, the survey canvases the induvidual in a region to uncover the crime of that region,sometimes published findings get biased as they get affected by regulations of governing body, this survey is very costy to conduct in terms of time etc.sometimes it fails to provide actual depection of society, it may have sampling and non sampling errors.

There are types of surveys that are NATIONAL survey in whole country people are asked to report the crime against them. BRITISH CRIME survey is an example for that. AREAsurvey is the next survey it is for small scale victim studies,it is specific the innercity or neighbourhood is targeted. The third type of survey is international crime survey, to look at households experiances at crime , to reduce the crime rate world wide.
