Sports has had a unifying force since its inception. If we look at sports from a sociological perspective and take the symbolic interactionist theory into the picture, we see that there is a certain meaning amd connotation attaches to the entire sports paradigm.

It has created a sense of division as well as unity in people. It educated people with respect to the various sports and its rules and benefits, it helps add to the health component that spread awareness regarding its rudimentary essense in an individuals mental and physical space.

Social stratification breaks with the advent of sports, it makes people unite despite the varying factors that keep them divided otherwise, hence socially mobilizing the masses. There is a respect that is obtained for all races as teams are composed of different ethnicities which creates a sense of tolerance

Although, the gender issues are recently getting highlighted by sports persons and athletes, where there is an effort to give an equal impetus to woman players.
