In a recent study, among recently-graduated university students of the sample, only 4% of them wrote with their left hand. Yet, among grade 1 elementary-school students from the same sample, a full 20% of them wrote with their left hand. What is wrong with the conclusion from these data that writing with the left hand is bad for university success?

One of the largest minorities in world , left-handed persons have been stigmatized linguistically, culturally, for hundreds of years. They are usually creative, musical, mathematical, they are also more likely to have speech, language and spelling difficulties and be susceptible to accidents.

According to recent study and experts, since last century social stigma resulted in left-handers having fewer children , possibly they married late or not at all. Historically, being left-handed had some bad connotations. Though time has changed along with a huge improvement over social discrimination, the mindset of people is all set up for Right-handed ones. Some have said that the reason is that Left-handed are clumsy but it is all because they live in right-handed world.

The grade 1 elementary school students are treated with more care, patience, motivation and responsibility. They are given more relaxation on their own choices and strengths. hence the number is 20% but gradually it decreases along with time. only the talented exceptional children survive through the whole process in this competition of right vs left handed. Though things changed a lot , rejection still exists in some purposes for them.

The ability to write with the own choice of hand does not affect the success in university. But sometimes the embarrassment, bullying , discrimination by parents, teachers ,relatives keep huge impacts on students psychologically, mentally and this tough survival brings that high 20% to 4% while graduating from university. There may be other possible reasons which can be investigated based on different other experimental studies on this crucial topic.
