think about a time at your job when a specific major decision
was made. Were you consulted prior to the decision being made? Were
you glad you were included (or not)? If you had to choose between
working at a job where every decision was made collaboratively or
by the supervisor alone, which would you prefer and why?
Starting out with a good breakfast:
Think about the last time you ate a meal away from home.
- What did you eat?
- Why did you choose that particular location and food
choice?
- Was is possible that those "choices" were predetermined by
restaurant?
- What aspects of your "choices" were subject to their marketing
efforts?
Now that you are looking at your meal in terms of marketing,
share your thoughts.
Learning" Please respond to the following: Think about a
behavior that has been learned (e.g., your dog learning to sit,
your mouth salivating at the sight of the Domino’s car pulling up
in front of your house, etc.). Determine which of the three
theories discussed in Chapter 6 would best explain how this
behavior was learned. Explain your rationale.
Think about a time when someone gave you good advice that you
did not take. For this discussion post, provide the situation and
explain why the “good” advice was not taken.
Next, discuss whether or not it makes sense to ignore “good”
advice. When is it appropriate to do so? When is it not? From a
writing perspective, think about how you can separate someone’s
good intentions from good advice in writing. Explain what this
process looks like.
Finally, determine...
Take this time to think about the word “empowerment.” Now
consider this statement: You cannot empower anyone; only a person
can empower him or her self. The most you can do as a helping
professional is create a context for someone to empower himself or
herself. What are the implications of this statement for your
approach to the work you are doing?
