Solutions

Expert Solution

Answer: There are a number of reasons why the National Guard reservists serving in Afghanistan war might be more likely to experience a burnout during their tour of duty as compared to regular military personnel. These are

  1. Work overload: This is one of the major reason s that is more likely to occur as in Afghanistan there is a gorilla war also going on and the terrorists may attack the camps at any time. This requires the soldiers to be on high alert all the time.
  2. Role ambiguity: Afghanistan is a tough territory where causalities are high and the deployment of forces is limited. There are many special missions that are carried out hence the soldiers may need to perform duties that are not assigned to their job profiles
  3. Role conflict: there is a perpetual war going on in Afghanistan and hence there are frequent attacks on the U.S troops and the troops also carry out frequent missions. In such situations there are role conflicts that may take place.
  4. Emotional stress: Afghanistan is a barren land with a high level of risk, the soldiers are away from home and there are very limited sources of entertainment or recreation. Hence this situation may create emotional stress on the soldiers.
