Describe each of the systems used for metal and glass curtain wall design?

Solutions

Expert Solution

there are mainly four types of  systems used for metal and glass curtain wall design
1. THE STICK BUILT SYSTEM
2. THE UNITIZED CURTAIN WALL OR THE UTILIZED SYSTEM
3. STRUCTURAL GLAZING CURTAIN WALL SYSTEM
4. LADDER SYSTEM
.
1. THE STICK BUILT SYSTEM - This is the oldest curtain wall system. It is a cladding and exterior wall system
which is hung on the building structure from floor to floor vertically and between vertical members horizontally.

2.  THE UNITIZED CURTAIN WALL OR THE UTILIZED SYSTEM -  when glass and aluminum curtain wall fabricated and installed as a panel system it is referred as a unitized curtain wall system. this is the fastest implemented wall system. few years a building in china was erected in just 72 hours using this wall system.

3. STRUCTURAL GLAZING CURTAIN WALL SYSTEM - It uses the same aluminum mullion components as
the stick built curtain wall except that the mullion nose (neck) of the verticals is omitted to
create a capless vertical joint system.

4. 4. LADDER SYSTEM (usually categorized under stick built system) because it is very similar to a stick built system, it also uses mullions but unlike in stick system they can be split into smaller pieces and later joined together consisting of a half box and plate.
