At a major food production facility, a cart of bananas with a mass of 200kg is at the top of a 10m high hill, moving with a speed of 6m/s. At the end of the production line is a segment where brakes are applied (uk = 0.4; D = 8m), and then the cart runs into a giant stopping spring (K = 10,000 N/m; total length = 4m).

a. Draw a FBD of the cart while in contact with the spring.

b. Show that the initial energy (at the top of the hill) of the cart is 23,200J.

c. Determine the distance the cart goes after touching the spring before it is brought to rest for the first time (answer to B is Eo).

d. Assuming that, after touching the spring, the cart travels 1.5m (not answer to part C) before stopping, determine the acceleration of the cart at the time its speed is zero.

In this experiment, the motion of a fan cart with a mass of 480g was measured as it accelerated from rest, along a horizontal track. These results were calculated from data collected by LoggerPRO.                                                                 Trial 1            Trial 2            Trial 3 Acceleration from x-t graph (m/s2)     0.642             0.622             0.651 Acceleration from v-t graph (m/s2)     0.618             0.664             0.604 A new experiment will be run, with these changes: A mass of 120g is added to the cart (we experimented with different masses...

Firm is evaluating the following project to install a new production facility. The production facility requires an investment in a machine costing 25,000 USD. The machine will be fully depreciated according to the straight-line method. The life of the project is estimated to be 4 years. When the project is over, although the book value of the machine is 0, you expect to sell the machine at a market value of 1,000 USD. The project also requires working capital in...

After experiencing such great success with their food cart, Nathan and Cody are considering purchasing a food truck to serve other communities. This would allow the Great Tamale, GT, to reach even more customers in different geographic locations. There would be an increase in the selling price per plate. There will also be an increase in the fixed costs of $30,000 for advertising to inform the public of this change (this amount is already included below under Food Truck data)....
