The potential for leadership is based on certain abilities and traits. The trait leadership theory of the nineteenth century was developed to fit for the army structure and management of the army. The main characteristics described in the trait leadership theory include

Initiative – The leader takes the initiative and drives the followers towards the common goal or initiative

Energy – The leader shows incredible energy and passion in their speech and body language in influencing the followers to achieve the mission set

Charisma – The leaders possesses a charisma that draws the attention of the followers towards the leader

Business knowledge – In the nineteenth century, most of the business leaders were the owners and possessed good business knowledge to succeed in their business

Tenacity – The leader is tenacious in achieving the goals set and will not rest until the mission is accomplished

Confidence – The leader possesses high self-confidence and is determined in the accomplishment of the mission undertaken

Integrity – The leader values integrity and leads a huge pool of followers despite several differences

Motivation – The leader is highly self-motivated and motivates the followers in all circumstances to achieve the business goals

Emotional Intelligence – The leader is highly emotional on the sufferings of their subjects or followers and has higher levels of self-awareness in guiding the business towards the vision

In my opinion, emotional intelligence is the most important trait of a leader to be successful in the current business environment. A leader with high emotional intelligence has a higher degree of self-awareness based on the experience gained in various circumstances and makes the right decision under pressure situations.
