14. If the greenhouse effect is necessary for life on earth (it is!) why is it that people are so concerned about it now? What has changed related to the greenhouse effect over the last 100 years? (1pt)

Solutions

Expert Solution

Ans. Greenhouse effect is necessary for the survival of organisms on earth. Without greenhouse effect there would have been very low temperature on earth and would have been very hostile for the organisms to survive. But due to industrial development, urbanization and deforestation, temperature of earth has been high and it leads to metling of polar glacies which may submerge many places on low lying areas or near sea shore. This leads to the destruction of habitats of many species. The rise in temperature causes hardship to many organisms for their survival and extiction of many species had happened due to rise in temperature and many animal species are kept at endangered state. Humans are getting harmful effect of temperature rise.

In the last 100 years, global surface temperature has risen by about 2 degree Celsious which is very alarming situation. This rise in temerature in the last 100 years is due to the increase in release of greenhouse gases.
