Match an appropriate correlation for given set of two variables.

1. Number of siblings & Gender Which one: (Chi-squared, point biserial correlation, spearman's rho, pearson's r, kendalls tau)

2. Math scores & Reading score Which one: (Chi-squared, point biserial correlation, spearman's rho, pearson's r, kendalls tau)

3. Birth order & Education level  Which one: (Chi-squared, point biserial correlation, spearman's rho, pearson's r, kendalls tau)

4. Job satisfaction & Annual income Which one: (Chi-squared, point biserial correlation, spearman's rho, pearson's r, kendalls tau)

Solutions

Expert Solution

Hope you find this solution helpful and give a 'like'.

Solution:

1. Here the variable 'Gender' is a dichotomous one , i.e , it has only two possible choices - male and female . So , in case of correlation between Number of Siblings and Gender , point biserial correlation in appropriate.

2. Here , both the variables(scores) are quantitative variables and hence Pearson's r will be appropriate.

3. Birth order is a variable where the rank or order in which a baby is born is noted whereas, education level is also represented in terms of different levels or ranks . So , here spearman's rho rank correlation techqinue is appropriate.

4. Here, if job satisfaction is a dichotomous variable with two possible answer - yes or no , then the point biserial correlation is appropriate . If job satisfaction is a quantitative variable then the Pearson's r correlation techqinue will be appropriate.

Thank you.
