What are the major activities in designing a “Goods-Producing” or “Service-Providing” process? Give one example each to support your answer

Solutions

Expert Solution

Major activities in designing a goods producing or service providing process include the following steps:

  1. Clearly defining the objectives and the purpose of the process.
  2. Creating a detailed value stream map or process which describes current performance of the project (sometimes called a baseline map or as current state). But if a new process is designed, this step can be skipped.
  3. Evaluation of the alternate process designs available. This is done by creating value stream maps which describes how the process can attain best organizational as well as customer objectives.
  4. Identifying and then defining suitable performance measures for this process.
  5. Selecting the appropriate technology as well as equipment’s.
  6. The next step is to develop an implementation plan in order to present the revised or new process design. This step also includes creating process performance criteria as well as standards to control and monitor the process.
