Write to defend the view that it is engineering advisable or not to use different detailing of reinforcement for rehabilitated structures
Rehabilitated structure are those structures which are being restored to the service level. Modification is being done to provide better strength to the structures which are being damaged to an extent. Various techniques and materials are used for the rehabilitation process of the civil engineering structures. It is not advisable to use different detailing of reinforcement in these kind of structures. Detailing is often considered as preparation of working drawing showing showing the size and location of the reinforcement in the structure. It is done due to many reasons as the structure is rehabilitated and it needs proper functioning and strength so we prefer to use the same detailing of the reinforcement which were being provided initially. In some cases it is being seen that different detailing of reinforcement is being used as more reinforcement and steel is to be provided as the initial amount is not enough. It is done only in limited and special conditions otherwise it is not advisable by engineering views.
As if the same detailing is used it provides various benefits as the structure drawings will not look more complex and it will be easy to reconstruct or repair those structures. It will also be easy for the contractor and the engineers to follow same path of reinforcement as it was done earlier. Good detailing ensures that the reinforcement and concrete would interact efficiently to provide better service to the customers throughout the complete range of loading.
