As Financial planners, I advise my clients on how best to invest, save, and grow their money. As a financial planner in Chicago City, I've come to expect new client meetings to include conversations related to financial confusion, anxiety, and frustration. Which is why the best piece of financial advice I can give you in regard to money is - Money is dynamic, thus focus on planning for the long run, and people should not caught up on today. The goal is to avoid making risky decisions and create a long-term plan that takes into consideration the specific requirements and desires, and creates the ideal balance between spending, saving, and investing.
If things are great right now, clients should enjoy, however always ensure sure to save as much as they can for a time in the future when they will need it. Retirement is one universal example; however medical cost, job loss, or other big life event could also happen. It will be easier to face the tough times if they prepare for it during the good times.
And, in case a client is currently living through one of those tough times, I advice them to remember that it's temporary. Don't stress about the progress they are not achieving. Just try to get through today. If has lost the job, focus on finding new job. If a client is headed with debt, cut back as much as they can.
Various areas of emphasis may include minimizing taxes, charitable donation, budgeting, college savings, reducing debt, increasing income and retirement planning. My advice to client may extend well beyond the bank accounts and retirement to help with insurance, loans, mortgages, estate documents and more.
