One of the most important factors that crippled the world for so many years is race and the discrimination it unleashed based on the ignorance that people held. Some people thought that certain races were superior to others and they are more intelligent than the other races. White color was used as an excuse to say that white skinned people were more intelligent and superior. Again, among white skinned people, few proposed that they were superior among all. This mindset made them dominate others aggressively because they were uncivilized because civilization is not in dress and in technology but in treating and behaving in a way that shows respect to everyone. This behavior in today’s standard, is unethical and illegal. There is institutionalized racial discrimination present in the developed countries but most of the countries have banned and legally punish people who practice racism. More affirmative actions are proposed from various governments in order to provide more opportunities to people who are affected by the racial discrimination.
Race is real in a sense that it categorizes people into different geographical and political umbrellas. We need to categorize people in order to learn our past and how human race survived and evolved over a period of time in different geographical locations and climates. Meritocracy is good but what about the disadvantage that people underwent for a long time. This has to be compensated until they also catch up with others.
In order to connect the dots of today one needs to look back into history and not into the future. History has shaped the way we live, so it’s very important to know that when we took that turn that landed us in this standard of life today. Most of the time history is written in the perspective of the winner, so understanding the implications of the way or reading between the line of history is really important to understand reality.
