. If two heterozygous parents (i.e., both Aa) mate, they produce offspring in the expected Mendelian proportions (i.e., 1/4AA, 1/2Aa, 1/4aa). We observe a big Drosophila family of 40 offspring of which 7 are aa. i) Construct   95% confidence interval on the observed proportion of aa offspring (7/40). What does this confidence interval tell us about our null hypothesis? Hint: our null hypothesis is that Mendelian laws have not been violated. ii)   Are   7   or   fewer   offspring statistically consistent   with   Mendelian expectations?    Hint: figure out the probability of observing 7 or fewer offspring in such a family if Mendelian laws have not been violated. iii) How few offspring of type aa would we have to observe in order to be suspicious that Mendelian proportions are being violated? Is your answer a test of a one-tailed hypothesis or a two-tailed hypothesis?

All work needs to be done in Rstudio.

A year-old jackal that attempts to find a mate and raise its own offspring will produce an average of 0.4 offspring in the first season. Another option would be to help its older sibling (full sibling) rear offspring. What is the minimum number of offspring the sibling would have to produce in order for the inclusive fitness of a year-old jackal to be higher in the helper role than raising its own offspring?

Instructions Genes are passed to offspring from parents through both sexual and asexual reproductions. Sexual reproduction provides the opportunity for genetic exchange to take place whereas asexual reproduction on provides for the same genes that were in the parent to be passed on to the offspring. In general, sexual reproduction is a good thing for a species as it allows for genetic exchanges which typically strengthens species. Although as we saw in the first discussion of this module that...
