The fundamental similarity between process facilitation and process consultation is that both aim at enhancing the level of awareness and expertise about the topic or process under consideration.

The differences between the 2 processes is as follows:

· Process facilitation is done with the assumption that the audiences have basic knowledge about the topic or area under consideration. Process consultation, on the other hand, is planned, assuming that the audiences are pure lay-mans and they have no relevant idea or information about the subject.

· Process facilitation is done when the information can be gathered from different sources and provided to the audiences for consideration. Process consultation is done when information needs to be transmitted by a subject matter expert

The primary merits or advantages of process consultation are as follows:

· Helps in increasing awareness and expertise about the subject under consideration

· Decision making gets facilitated as advice is coming from a subject matter expert

· The overall effectiveness of business increases substantially
