There are various of disease and millions of pathogens including virus, bacteria, fungus but not all the disease are comes to pandemic like situation because there are some factors which makes a disease pandemic.

  • Transmission: Though there is no specific transmission rate is described by any organization for a disease to became pandemic. But if the disease is able to transmit from human to human and other species also then it may be a characteristic of pandemic.

For example the plague was one of the pandemic which can was able to transmit from rat to human. So if the disease is able to transmit from one species to another then it may be a cause of pandemic.

  • Vector: The diseases like malaria, cholera need a vector but we have to remember that these vector transmitting diseases are not so fetal but if the disease can be transmitted through air, water then it is really a great cause of pandemic.

For example the SARS COV-2 or COVID-19 can be spread through air.

  • Disease development: If the disease initially does not develops or does not show any symptom but after the incubation period the disease develops very drastically and can lead to very bad condition even death, even if the disease shows various degree of development in various aged people and if there is no proper medicine or vaccine then it can be consider as a pandemic.
