Complete the worksheet according to the following guidelines:

  • In the space provided, write each term’s definition as used in ecology. You must define the term in your own words; do not simply copy the definition from a textbook. Provide APA-formatted citations for all paraphrased responses inserted into this worksheet. Every cited work must also have a corresponding reference entry on the References page at the end of this worksheet.

  • In the space provided after each term’s definition, provide an explanation that illustrates the importance of the concept, method, relationship, or study to which the term refers. In your explanation, you may wish to consider the following:

  • How has it influenced ecology?
  • Why is it important to understand the appropriate application of the term or concept?

Environment everything present around us is known as environment. This includes both biotic and abiotic factors. It is important for living being. Environment provide all the essential things like food , air etc for survival of organism.
Population

group of individuals living in a particular area , over a particular time is known as population

Population play an important role in structure of ecosystems
Scientific methods- scientific method involves firstly making conjectures (hypotheses), based on logical consequences, and perform experiments or empirical observations based on those predictions. the major advantage of the scientific method is that the data we collected by doing experiments is empirical. information is gained through direct observations and experiments. Thus it allows scientist to make claims about the truth of the theory
Natural selection evolution is the change in the characteristics of a species over several generations. This evolution relies on the process of natural selection As environment changes over time , organism which are more adapted to that environment are selected based on heritable trait. So become more adapted to that particular environment. And live more successfully than others.
Chromosome organized genetic material present in nucleus in eukaryotes in known as chromosomes chromosome contains Gene's. These are the units of heredity. They express and form protein and invovle in making particular phenotype.
Adaptations it is a process by organism is more adapted to its environment and live in a better way . This is done by selecting individual by environment based on heritable trait. Responsible for better survival of organism in a particular environment.
Origin of species it includes both how species arise and how it reach tobtidays scenario It is important to study what the process has done in becoming of species in today's scenario. What selection process has involved and what character's play an important role in there selection.
Fitness state of being fit in term of bith mentally as well as physically fitness , important for overall health. It makes our life easier , without having any disease.
Gene pool Sum total allele present in a polulation is represent gene pool pools large gene pool allows individuals to select desirable allele. But this us not possible in polulation has small gene pool.
