How do you know if the layer is acidic or basic? Why would this information be useful to you? during acid base extraction

Solutions

Expert Solution

To know the layer is acidic or basic, the solution has subjected to litmus acid. Litmus test is pH indicator having all the range. It is an excellent technique to know acidity or basidity. Acid generally show red to light yellowish in colour during litmus test. While base shows deep blue to light green. You need just insert the litmus paper in the solution.

Acid base extraction is a technique for components separation. If a mixture has two or more mixture and they have different acid base character then it could be separated by acid base extraction. Suppose we have one acidic compound or basic compound in a mixture and both can be dissolved in in organic solvent, then either giving aqueous acidic solution or basic solution transfer one part from the organic solvent to aqueous part and leaving only one part in organic part. Thus separated. The aquoaqu part contain one of the ionic part of the organic compound.
