What is the critical error being committed when an employee who reports to you takes a complaint directly to your manager and receives resolution?

Expert Solution

The critical error being committed when an employee who reports to you takes a complaint directly to your manager and receives resolution are:

As a supervisor, you are not immediately  and moreover not  effectively answering to the complaints which are made by the employees.

This also indicates that the employees went over the supervisor and went directly to the higher management authority without providing the supervisor any chance to respond to the complaint generated.  Here the manager usually send back the employee towards the supervisor itself. But if the higher manager does not get along with the supervisor, the management will be willing to listen to the employee complaints who went over the supervisor’s  head and try to get a resolution.

The employees who  break the chain of command by circumventing their supervisors are having the ability to influence the supervisor morale within the organization.
