Discussion Question: How can we see homophobia and stereotypes about sexual identity being bolstered by Hollywood representations? How can we see the shift that occurred in the 1990’s as a part of a larger pattern of cultural change in terms of sexuality and sexual expression that dates back further than the 90’s? What does it suggest about American culture that we are more comfortable with representations of aggression and violence than affection and sexuality between two people of the same sex? How can we make sense, sociologically, about the double standard between men and women in terms of representations of same-sex sexuality?
American culture has larglely potaryed relatiion ship betweeen man and a women in movies, in disney cartoons and and even in the serials which they show case. Around 7-8 years back some comedy serials are turning up which are showcasing on homosexuality. Otherwise homosexuality was the topic of documetary films. Many action movies like Matrix, Transformers, Fast and furious which has any parts, or any super hero movies are produced by US directors. There are usuaaly three, four types of geners - romantic, action, comedy and horror. Hence the statement made above is very correct that instead of showcasing or making films over same sex relationship films were largely produced on action. One of the reason may that it is viewers favouraite. In those days arpun 90s or even 10 years viewers more preffered action films than films based on same sex.
Many men and women talk about homosexuality is normal. It is a form of love etc. But when their children or their closed ones or even neighbours turn out to be homosexual then may be shocked if it is their children, or they may even pass comments if it is in neighbourhood or laugh or giggle. Such people are double standard - who can not tolerate having homosexuals around.
