d. Explain how and what type of memory is most affected by prolonged severe stress.
e. Discusses 5 ways that stress damages the hippocampus in lab animals. List and describe each of these 5 ways.
f. What is the conclusion regarding the current state of knowledge regarding stress and the human hippocampus.
b. Memory is mainly categorised broadly into 2 types explicit and implicit memory-
EXPLICIT MEMORY- these are those memories that can be consciously or intentionally recalled by the brain such as the memories of riding a bike, singing a song, visiting to a place. etc The explicit memory can once again be divided in to 2 types they are known as the episodic memory and the semantic memory.
EPISODIC MEMORY- these are personal events that can be recalled like singing a song for the first time, watching the forst episodes of a tv series.
SEMANTIC MEMORY- these are the facts or figures that can be recalled like someones mobile number or lyrics of a song or may be your birthday.
IMPLICIT MEMORY- These are the functional form of the memory that are attached to the sub conscious or unconscious parts of our brain and they are not under our control and cannot be recalled intentionally by us.. The three main types of implicit memory are procedural memory, priming and conditioning. examples of this type of memory are how to ride a bike, how to write, how to swing a baseball bat etc.
