Write the complete ionic and net ionic equations for all of the reactions listed
(a) KOH(aq) + HCl(aq) H2O(l) + KCl (aq)
(b) 2 Na(s) + Cl2(g) 2 NaCl (s)
(c) Ca(NO3)2(aq) + Na2CO3(aq) 2 NaNO3(aq) + CaCO3(s)
(d) HBr (aq) + Cl2(g) 2HCl (aq) + Br2(l)
(e) 2 C2H6(g) + 7 O2(g) 4 CO2(g) + 6 H2O (g)
Complete ionic equation : This represent all the ions involved in reaction.
Net ionic equation: This represent only those ions which take parti in reaction it does not include spectator ions. spectator ions are those ions which remain in solution.
(a)Complete ionic equation :
K+ (aq) + OH-(aq) + H+ (aq)+ Cl- (aq) ===> K+(aq) + Cl-(aq)+ H2O(l)
Here K+ (aq), Cl- (aq) will be spectator ions.
Net ionic equation : OH-(aq) + H+(aq) ===> H2O(l)
(b) No dissociation of ions will occur so complete ion equation and net ionic equation will be same as : 2 Na(s) + Cl2(g) ===> 2 NaCl (s)
(c) Complete ionic equation :
2Ca 2+(aq)+ 2NO3-(aq) + 2Na+(aq) + 2CO32-(aq) ===> 2NO3-(aq) + 2Na+(aq) + CaCO3(s)
NO3-(aq) and Na+(aq) will be spectator ions .
Net ionic equation:
2Ca 2+(aq)+ 2CO32-(aq) ===> 2CaCO3(s)
(d) Complete ionic equation :
2H+(aq) + 2Br-(aq) + Cl2(g)===> 2H+ (aq) + 2Cl- (aq) + Br2(l)
H+(aq) is spectator ion.
Net ionic equation
2Br-(aq) + Cl2(g) ===> 2Cl- (aq) + Br2(l)
(e) Complete ionic equation and net ionic equation will be same as no dissociation of ions will occur.
2C2H6(g) + 7O2(g) ===> 4CO2(g) + 6H2O (g)
