What is differences between a parameter and a random variable in statistics?
I want clear explanation !!
A variable is an entity that changes with respect to another
entity in a given system.
i.e the value of it varies depending on
conditions.
There are two main types of variables
These are known as independent variables and dependent
variables.
Dependent variable changes with the change in independent
variable
Example(dependent and independent variable ), if the strain of a
rubber band is measured while changing the stress of the band,
Strain is the dependent variable and stress is the independent
variable. The dependence is applied when the dependent variable is
dependent on the independent variable.
A parameter is an entity which is used to connect variables or
unify two or more variables of an equation or 'link' between two
variables.
Difference between variable and parameter by example :
1) The equation x^2+y^2=1 is a circle centered at the origin with
radius 1 and variables x and y.
2) The equations x=cos(t), and y=sin(t) with t∈[0,2π] also
represent a circle at the origin with radius 1 and variable x and
y. Notice however, that the equation of x does not contain y, and
vice versa. Instead they are connected by a parameter t.
The problem becomes relatively easy as it has only one parameter to
analyze rather than the two variables.
