what is the relationship between motor neuron activity, EMG activity and performance (work)?

Expert Solution

Motor neurons are neuronal cells that carry signals from the central nervous system to different parts of the body.It is a neuron whose cell body is located in teh brain stem or spinal cord and whose axons projects to and outside the spinla cord .Two types of motor neurons upper motor neuron and lower motor neuron.Upper motor neuron synapses onto interneurons in the spinal cord. The efferent nerve fibres in the axons of the lower motor neurons carry signals from the spinal cord to the effectors.A single motor neuron may innervate many muscle fibres. In the time taken for a single muscle twitch the muscle fibres undergoes many action potentials.

EMG is Electrromyography .It is a technique for evaluating the electrical activity produced by skeletal muscles in response to anerves stimulation of the muscle. In this we can testy the neuromuscular defect .EMG is related to the amount of muscle contraction, whenever a muscle contract an electrical activity is generated and is passed through neighbouring tissues and bones.

Performance is the capacity of a muscle to generate forces.Muscle performance depends up on the factors strength, power, endurance.
