What is the mass of Carbon (C) in milligrams found in 325 mg of aspirin (C9H8O4)?

What is the mass of Carbon (C) in milligrams found in 325 mg of aspirin (C9H8O4)?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Mass of aspirin = C9H8O4 = 325 mg = 0.325 g

molar mass of aspirin = 180.16 g/mole

molar mass of Carbon = 12.0 g/mole

mass of carbon present in 180.16 grams of aspirin = 9x12.0 = 108.0 grams

mass of carbon present in 0.325 grams of aspirin = ?

                                                                                 = 108.0x0.325/180.16 = 0.195 grams

mass of carbon present in 0.325 grams of aspirin = 0.195 grams

mass of carbon presetn in 325 mg of aspirin = 0.195x1000 = 195 mg

mass of carbon = 195 mg.
