How can a varicocele affect male fertility? Is it common?
Can cholesterol derived hormones pass through a cell membrane?
What is LSH? What is GnRH?
ANSWER :
The varicocele is a fairly common disorder of reproductive system occurs in male humans, because 10-15 individuals of every 100 are affected with this problem. The varicocele is caused due to blocking and enlargement of the testicular veins within the scrotum, which lead to cause decrease motility, decreased sperm count and large number of deformed sperms, and results in the common infertility in them.
Cholesterol or steroid derived hormones such as testosterone, estrogen and other androgens can pass through the cell membrane into the cytoplasm of targeted cells, because they easily diffused through the phospholipids molecules of membrane and enter to the cell's cytoplasm to bind specific cytoplasmic receptors or to the receptors located on the nuclear membrane.
The LSH or Luteinizing hormone is released from the anterior lobe of the pituitary gland under the secretion of gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) from the hypothalamus part of brain. The Luteinizing hormone is responsible for the ovulation of gametes and promote the development of corpus luteum.
