Compare the tissue involvement in first-degree, second-degree full-thickness, and third-degree burns. Describe burns based on depth of injury. Discuss burn classification. Describe estimation of total body surface area (TBSA) in a burn.
Explain the rule of nines as a method of determining the extent of a burn
Tissue involvement in burns
*First degree burns - Superficial Burns which includes only epidermis of the skin.
*Second degree full thickness - Epidermis and papillary dermis are involved.
*Third degree burns - Epidermis and whole of the dermis is involved.
Classification of burns based on depth of injury :
Total body surface area(TBSA) involved in burns can be estimated by :
Wallace rule of 9
In this method, body surface area is divided into percentages. These percetages are added to get total body burface area.
