Hydrolysis is the chemical reaction in which water molecule is used to break the large molecules into a simpler one.

These types of reactions are known to be opposite of the condesation reactions where small molecules joins together to form a large one.

Lysis means to break or broken something so water molecule is used and complex molecules are broken into the smaller one.

The process of hydrolysis is seen in the human body in the process of digestion , in digestion water molecules are used and in the presence of enzymes the complex molecules are broken into the small for the purpose of proper digestion.

So there is a starch which is digested by the enzyme amylase in the mouth secreted from.the salivary gland and also severed later from the pancreas.

The starch is hydrolyzed in the presence of water with the enzyme and then produce the maltose and some sort of glucose.
