How to calculate the variance in a pie chart?

How to calculate the variance in a pie chart?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Pie Chart is a statistical graph, which is divided into multiple parts or slices. Each part of the graph represents numerical proportion of different categories.Total percentage of a pie chart is 100% and the arc measure 360 degree as it is a cicular graph.

To find variance of a pie chart we can follow the below mentioned steps:

  1. Measure angle of each part of the pie chart. Let us denote angle by symbol A.
  2. Now, to get percentage or weightage of each part use this formula, percentage(P) = (A\360)*100
  3. Then to get frequencies of each part, f= {(P*N)/100} ; where f= frequency of each part and N= total no of frequencies
  4. Now, calculate mean for each part of the pie chart by 1st summing all the frequencies divided by the total number of frequency.
  5. After getting the mean value , we just need to calculate variance using variance formula.

I'm explaining this with the following example,

Consider , the following pie chart , having 4 parts A,B,C,D. Here we have measured the percentages using (P) = (A\360)*100

As, described above we can find variance from pie chart very easily.
