What is the differences of .JPG/JPEG, .GIF, .PNG?
Below are the differences between JPG/JPEG, GIF and PNG image types.
JPG / JPEG:
JPG/JPEG stands for Joint Photographic Expects Group. JPG was developed by Joint Photographic Expects Group. It is used to be a standard for professional photographers. JPG/JPEG compresses image data by averaging out colors by nearby pixels. JPG/JPEG images are best suited for photos and paints for natural scenes where the variations in color and intensity is smooth.
GIF:
GIF stands for Graphics Interchange Format. GIF is not ideal for photography. GIF images can be smaller than JPG/JPEG file and has very limited colors. GIF is mostly used for images that contains animations.
PNG:
PNG stands for Portable Network Graphics. PNG format is used for images that needs transparency OR logos. Logos are images with text and object which sharp contrast. PNG is lossless image fromat using Deflate compression. There is no image data lost during compression. PNG image has higher quality when compared to JPG/JPEG and GIF images. And PNG images can be bigger than JPG/JPEG and GIF files.
